How to Apply for a Permit
We are always here to help. If you have specific questions about permits or inspections, please Contact SAFEbuilt.
A building permit is required for most construction projects. Because working on a project without a permit can have serious financial and legal implications, it is best to understand the permitting requirements before you tackle a project.

Inspection Requirements
Inspection requirements can vary from project to project. Visit our list of Frequently Asked Questions for a detailed list of inspection requirements, as well as a list of projects that require a building permit.

One Stop Permits
There are many projects in the home that do not require drawings or a plan review in order to obtain a permit. These projects require a 'one-stop permit' and can be obtained immediately from your town building department.

Permit Application Process
When applying for a permit, the requirements can vary for each town.
The steps below generally describe the permit application process.

Complete an Application
Go to your local town hall to complete a permit application. You should review the Permit Submittal Requirements for your town and bring all required materials with you.

2.

Submit Application for Approval
If a plan review is required, once completed, the plans and application are returned to town hall. The permit will then be approved by the respective town departments and be ready to be issued.

Collect Your Permit
Once your permit has been approved, it will be issued at town hall and you will be notified. All required fees are to be paid at this time to the town hall. You should also pick up information for required inspections for your project at this time.
