SAFEbuilt Colorado provides the building department functions for many of the communities directly and indirectly impacted by the tornado that struck Northern Colorado yesterday, May 22.

“Our first priority is to assess the condition of structures damaged in the storms,” says David Thomsen, vice president, SAFEbuilt. “SAFEbuilt's inspectors, with assistance from the Colorado Chapter of the International Code Council and other agencies, are focusing on the areas hardest hit. We will make every effort to help our communities rebuild as expeditiously as possible.”
The primary focus is the Town of Windsor, which has sustained the greatest damage. SAFEbuilt's Windsor office was not damaged, but is without power and email access.
SAFEbuilt is working from its office in Firestone and has set-up an alternate phone number. The new phone number to schedule an inspection for the Towns of Ault, Gilcrest, Kersey, Nunn, Pierce, Severance, Timnath and Wellington, is 866-774-1388, until further notice.
SAFEbuilt has brought in inspectors from other offices in Colorado to assist with the effort. If necessary, SAFEbuilt can also bring in additional resources from their offices in other states. Over the coming days and weeks, SAFEbuilt will be providing additional information to assist with the rebuilding efforts, many posted at www.SAFEbuiltColorado.com.
“We urge people to check the references of potential contractors before paying for services needed. The events yesterday demonstrate the importance of quality construction,” says Thomsen.
