On February 5, 2009 SAFEbuilt hosted an informational meeting for contractors and citizens in the City of Central to update and answer any questions regarding the 2006 International Codes. Close to 100 people, including the mayor, city council members, contractors, citizens and key guest speakers attended this successful event.

Since hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the State of Louisiana adopted ACT 12 that created the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council in 2006, which included adoption of all of the 2006 International Codes except for the plumbing code.
“We have actually seen the strength of the new structures built by the 2006 International codes when hurricane Gustav hit,” says Building Official Kenneth Eglinsdoerfer. “While inferior homes built in the past crumbled during Gustav, homes built under the 2006 International Codes stood untouched.”
The meeting included distribution of an informational brochure on how to obtain a residential and commercial permit and presentations by the following individuals: The Honorable Mayor Watts; Tommy Higgs, Program Director, CH2M Hill; Kenneth Eglinsdoerfer, Building Official, SAFEbuilt; Randy Noel, Chairman, Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council; Tom Ashley, President, Capital Regional Builders Association; and Michael McDuff, Executive Director, Louisiana State Licensing Board.
It took Louisiana only 2 years to adopt and implement the 2006 building codes state wide, a process that took Florida 10 years. Informational meeting like this are key to this rapid success.
Special thanks to Kenneth Eglinsdoerfer, Elegant Memories for the use of its function facilities, and Scott and Ralph Price for the food.
