SAFEbuilt Tornado Relief Fund $23,840 Raised to Help Rebuild Community Park
The unusual and devastating tornado that tore through the Town of Windsor on May 22, 2008, made an impact on the staff at SAFEbuilt Colorado. SAFEbuilt, the state’s leading provider of full-service building department programs, not only provides building department services to the Town of Windsor but has its corporate office in Windsor.

"Together we were able to collect $23,840 for the Windsor Foundation.  The money will go toward the rebuilding of the Chimney Park ball fields destroyed in the disaster,” says McCurdie.

In the hours and days that followed the tornado, SAFEbuilt team members were instrumental as first responders and facilitators in the recovery effort.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) estimates that 850 homes sustained some level of damage, including 78 that were destroyed and 268 that suffered major structural damage.

SAFEbuilt worked round the clock to assess the damage and issue building permits to expedite the rebuilding process, most of which were at no charge.

Wanting to do more, President Mike McCurdie established the SAFEbuilt Windsor Tornado Recovery Fund.  “With seed money of $10,000, we received donations from our employees, clients and business partners."

"Together we were able to collect $23,840 for the Windsor Foundation.  The money will go toward the rebuilding of the Chimney Park ball fields destroyed in the disaster,” says McCurdie.

“The tornado not only destroyed the fences, bleachers, restrooms and concession stands, it left tiny particles of debris embedded in the sod,” says Melissa Chew, director of Windsor’s Park and Recreation Department.  “SAFEbuilt’s contribution is significant toward our rebuilding of Chimney Park.”

Currently, SAFEbuilt Colorado provides full-service building department programs for 24 Colorado municipalities from 8 office locations.
