Mike McCurdie - President
Mike McCurdie purchased Colorado Inspection Agency, now known as SAFEbuilt, in 1999.  He immersed himself in learning about building safety, earned his ICBO Building Inspector certification and soon developed a passion for the critical work done by code officials.  He especially saw the need to help SAFEbuilt become a company that could effectively partner with communities in the development process.


Mike McCurdie has been a SAFEbuilt team member since 1999.

Initially, Mike was one of four employees providing building department services to ten communities out of a single office in Windsor, Colorado.  Word of SAFEbuilt’s commitment to excellence soon spread.

The reasons for SAFEbuilt’s success are many, but they
all start with Mike’s commitment to clients and employees.  He has fostered an environment in which people who are passionate about the work can excel.  The company requires its staff to carry the proper certifications and licenses and get the training needed to keep up with ever-changing construction demands.  SAFEbuilt pays for that training and rewards those who work to better themselves.  The company now counts several Master Code Professionals among its ranks and has employees involved at the local and national code development levels.

SAFEbuilt takes equal pride in its partnerships with client communities.  Mike has always led the company to provide the highest quality service.  We are able to offer our clients service levels, depth of resources, and capabilities usually available only in the largest municipal or county departments.  In this way, SAFEbuilt has heightened the importance and impact of building code enforcement.  Under Mike McCurdie’s leadership, SAFEbuilt will continue to pursue this passion for years to come.


Dave Thomsen - Vice President
David Thomsen was co-owner of Rapid Production Tooling, an injection molding manufacturer, before joining SAFEbuilt in 2005. As Vice President, David oversees operations, business systems, and business development.


David Thomsen has been a SAFEbuilt team member since 2005.

“SAFEbuilt has assembled an amazing team of people dedicated to providing our customers the highest level of service,” said David.

“It’s rewarding not only to help protect the communities we serve, but also to be a part of those communities.  Given the challenges of today and the future, SAFEbuilt will become an ever more viable solution for governmental entities.”


Matt Royer - Director of Regional Operations
Matt Royer was a building inspector and plans examiner before joining SAFEbuilt as Building Official for the Eagle, Colorado office in 2005. Today he heads up the company’s western region, with responsibilities as both operations manager and technical representative.


Matt Royer has been a SAFEbuilt team member since 2005.

 “My field understanding allows me to ensure that building officials, plans examiners, inspectors and permit techs are supported and have the necessary tools to perform their jobs at the highest level possible,” said Matt.

“In general, SAFEbuilt has provided opportunity for new challenges and growth.  The core values are lived by everyone in the company and provide the common link moving us into the future.”


Scott Martin - Business Development Manager
Scott manages all business development functions companywide. Before coming to SAFEbuilt, he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a leading distributor to the convenience store industry.


Scott Martin has been a SAFEbuilt team member since 2005.

“SAFEbuilt provides great value to our partner client communities,” said Scott. “Our business model allows for local control and provides a no-risk solution for our clients’ building department services needs. Life safety is our number one priority with customer service coming in a close second.”


Jon Walker - Director of Regional Operations
Before joining SAFEbuilt, Jon held positions as City Manager, Chief Administrative Officer and Budget Analyst in various cities and counties in Georgia. As Director of Regional Operations, he oversees SAFEbuilt’s Southeast Region, including supervision of field offices, new office implementation and performance tracking.


Jon Walker has been a SAFEbuilt team member since October, 2006.

Karen Mack - Controller
CPA Karen Mack came to SAFEbuilt with experience in banking, tax preparation and construction accounting.  As Controller, she’s responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. She also oversees payroll and all transaction processing in the finance department.


Karen Mack has been a SAFEbuilt team member since 2006.
