City of Troy

Prior to 2010, the City of Troy’s building services department was operating at a substantial deficit. As noted in the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report dated June 30, 2010, there was a cumulative shortfall of $6.6 million. The City made the decision to privatize its building inspections department through an RFP process and chose SAFEbuilt– an action that saved taxpayers a million dollars in the first year.

SAFEbuilt also helped the City identify efficiencies and improve departmental processes. Consistent turnaround times enable builders and other customers to plan accordingly and meet timelines. SAFEbuilt scanned thousands of paper records and equipped inspectors with wireless laptops. This use of technology helped save time and improved service to customers – both in the field and in the office.

"There is none better than the City of Troy building department. We work in a lot of communities and our experience recently in Troy has been nothing short of excellent," said a state wide developer.
